Since September 9, 1989 the International Autism Awareness Day was held every year. This day was designated by resolution "62/139 United Nations General Assembly. The International Autism Awareness Day was proposed by the representatives of Qatar and supported by all Member States and adopted on 18 December 2007.
The resolution referring to International Autism Awareness Day had four main components:
• the day of April 2 was established as the International Autism Awareness Day;
• participation of all UN organizations, Member States, NGOs and all public and private organizations to this day;
• increasing awareness of autism at all levels of society;
• sending this message to all Member States and other UN bodies by the UN Secretary-General.
The color blue is symbolic for this day.
In present there exists the website "World Autism Awareness Day" (International Autism Awareness Day), which provides materials and suggestions on how to participate in this day, and a list of current activities in different countries and organizations, which are planned to celebrate this day.
