The new statistics regarding the prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)


The last statistics from The Republic of Moldova:
According to the letter 01-1/613 from 10th of April 2014, and according to the data presented by the relevant Committee of the Ministry of Health in the psychiatric field, at the end of year 2013, under the supervision of psychiatrists from the country, there were 220 patients with autism, out of which 191 were children.
Autism is a neurobiological disorder, which affects more and more children. According to the latest studies published by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – National Statistics Reports, there has been a significant increase in the number of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (1 in 50). The new report was carried out between 2011 and 2012.

The new study reflects also the gender differences. There has been a worrying increase in the number of boys from 1 in 56 (according to the study from 2007) to 1 in 31 (according to the study from 2011-2012). The prevalence of ASD among girls has also known a significant increase. The study from 2007 reported prevalence from 1 in 204, and the latest study reported a prevalence of 1 in 143 of girls diagnosed with ASD.
